Masks ignite the imagination. 
There is a spiritual power in masks that transports one into realms unseen and gives voice to things unspoken.   Putting on or gazing upon a mask places the wearer or observer at the intersections between the past, present and future, the living and the dead, this world and the other world of the unseen, also known as the fifth element, aether or the realm of the cosmos beyond the terrestrial. This unseen element inhabits every square inch of existence.  There is nowhere it does not exist.
